Freelancer Needed: Menomonie Public Library

Colleen Zertler who is one of the Youth Services Librarians at the Menomonie Public Library is looking for student help!
This spring the library will be undergoing a remodel. Our teen area will be moved to a new location during this time. The entrance to the new area will have dividing wall with a hanging space of 34 X 41 where we would like a sign that says Teens. Would any of your students be interested in submitting a sketch/rough draft (not sure of the right term)for
consideration? This would be a permanent fixture at the library. It could be in any medium and in any style (as long as it is not offensive). Sketches need to be turned in to the library by April 17th to my attention. They should include their name and contact information along with it.

Event: Mosaic on a Stick (FREE!)

I've been waiting to post something about this place and right now is the perfect time because there is an open mosaic studio! I was invited to this place with my mom's company last year and had a blast making a mirror mosaic that now hangs in my house. The base cost for a usual event is $150 for 5 people. Each additional person is $30. BUT NOW IT'S FREE!

Lori Greene at Mosaic on a Stick has decided that the recession is for the birds, and we should all connect and make some great art together! For the first time ever, she is opening her studio to all comers for an open studio day! That means access to the supplies, and tools usually reserved for people having a mosaic party! You will have to bring your own substrate to stick stuff on or buy a mirror or picture frame there, and if you want to purchase anything from the retail part of the store, of course, you can.
March 21, 10-6

595 North Snelling Avenue
St. Paul , MN 55104
651-645-6600
Of course, Mosaic On A Stick is located in St. Paul in the State Fair corridor at 595 North Snelling Avenue. (Otherwise the name wouldn't be nearly as cool or fitting.)

From I-94, take the exit for Snelling Avenue. Go North on Snelling. Mosaic On A Stick is 4 blocks North of University on the corner of Snelling and Thomas.

Please leave a quick note if you're planning on going so there could be possible carpools.

AIGA benefits

There are countless benefits with an AIGA membership and right now I'm really diggin' the yearly publication of outstanding design. This 367 page book is delivered to members at the end of each year with categories including promotional design and advertising, brand identity, typography, and packaging design. The AIGA jury reviewed more than 4,700 entries and narrowed the samples down to 255. A book like this could cost $30-$60 and is a great addition for your inspiration library. Get a membership today!

Spotlight: Jessica Hische

Right now I'm obsessed with Jessica Hische's work. She's a designer from Brooklyn that specializes in hand drawn Typography and Illustration. Her recent clients include Tiffany & Co. and the New York Times. I wished I payed more attention in Dehoff's typography class because I am just lovin' everything Jessica does with her type.
